Screen-printing of microfibrillated cellulose for an improved moisture management, strength and abrasion resistant properties of flame-resistant fabrics

Abstract Low moisture absorbency of hydrophobically coated flame-resistant (FR) fabrics do not correlate well with the thermophysiological comfort. In this frame, we were first to study effect screen-printed microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) on fabric’s breathability and build-up transfer as user-friendly wear-related comfortable coating. The amount MFC applied its patterning was varied using different printing parameters, density thickness FR fabric, studied by add-on measurement microscopic imaging. coating durability (attachment) after a post-printing hydrophobic polyacrylate same (layer-by-layer) or other side considered, thus maintain one fabric (facing towards wearer) hydrophilic while keeping outward) hydrophobic. results showed that provides uniform repeatable printing, which gave homogeneous good layering fabrics, although, resulting in concentration, squeegee’ pressure, fabric’ structure dependent add-on, imprinting co-crosslinking within polyacrylate. This slightly reduced air-permeability, but increased it surfaces wetting, uptake kinetic capacity (hydroscopicity), without affecting water vapour transfer. Besides, could fix pre-printed maintaining hydrophilicity, being more pronounced case less open thicker improving tensile/tear strengths abrasion resistance, deterioration fabric`s flammability.
